The WoodWelding® process looks simple; only one connection material is required, the complete process lasts only a few seconds, and the resulting bond is strong, durable and weather proof.
Despite its simple appearance, the WoodWelding® process involves knowledge of physics and materials science at the highest level.
The WoodWelding® process can be described in three steps:
- an active sonotrode drives the thermoplastic element into the porous material
- this sets up shearing forces at the contact surface of the plastic, causing it to liquefy and penetrate into the porous material
- the plastic cools rapidly, resulting in a stable joint after only a few seconds
