Pernilla Kvist
Managing Director
Pernilla was formerly the Stockholm-based Nordic marketing manager of an IKEA Group company, responsible for the group's consulting and investment activities in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark. After leaving Sweden, she worked for an Austrian mobile network operator ("ONE", now Orange) and was responsible for developing business solutions at the time of network expansion following the national launch. She has a Master’s degree in management from the Stockholm School of Economics and Business Administration, Sweden.

Dr. Jörg Mayer
Managing Director
Jörg is responsible for R&D of SpineWelding AG and business development of the medical activities of WoodWelding SA. He spent more than ten years with the Chair of Biocompatible Materials Science and Engineering at The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology as Vice Chairman. He also supervised more than 25 PhD students and was project leader for numerous implant development projects in co-operation with major medical device manufacturers. He worked as scientific advisor in the process of spinning out four medical device companies. He was the initiator of the Life Science Park Zurich Initiative. He got his engineering and PhD degrees from, ETH Zurich and holds several scientific awards.

Astrid has a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Her studies focused on polymer technology and medical device development. For SpineWelding she works in R&D, procedural and hardware development in the medical field.

Dr. Barbara Froesch
Research and Development

Barbara studied Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) of Zurich, Switzerland, where she received the PhD degree in 1995. In 1996 she joined the group of Professor John Reed in San Diego, California, a world leading cancer research laboratory. From 1999 she worked for The Genetics Company, a biotechnology company developing innovative cancer and Alzheimer Diseases therapeutics in Schlieren, Switzerland, in the fields of preclinical research coordination, IP management, business development and fund raising. Barbara joined SpineWelding in 2007 as a scientific consultant for drug discovery, biotechnology, certification and IP Management.

Thomas has a master’s degree in materials science from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and a postgraduate degree in Management, Technology and Economics from ETH Zurich, Switzerland. He works as a R&D project manager in SpineWelding’s medical projects.

Mario Lehmann

(Non-) Medical Applications
Mario has a degree in timber engineering. He has spent five years in R&D at the Swiss School of Wood Engineering in Biel, Switzerland, with main focus on the development of new bonding solutions for wooden material using friction welding technologies. He is active in R&D, procedural and hardware development in SpineWelding’s medical and non-medical projects.

Stephanie Mehl

Stephanie has a degree in medical engineering from the University of Applied Sciences in Ulm (Germany) and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Bradford, UK. She completed her internship at Zimmer GmbH, Switzerland. Stephanie is involved in R&D, procedural and hardware development in SpineWelding's medical projects.

Andrea Müller

Andrea has a degree in mechanical engineering (biomechanical engineering and integrated development and construction) from the School of Engineering in Winterthur, Switzerland, and completed her apprenticeship at Centerpulse. She is involved in R&D, procedural and hardware development in SpineWelidng's medical projects.

Laurent Torriani
Advanced R&D Consultant
Laurent has been responsible for the majority of the WoodWelding technology development to date. He has spent five years as a wood engineer at the Swiss School of Engineering for the Wood Industry in Biel, Switzerland. He has been leading a range of R&D projects, both during the early conceptual state of the WoodWelding technology at the school, and later on to refine the technology at SpineWelding. He is a co-inventor of the WoodWelding technology. He is a creative partner and employed by Creaholic SA.

Andreas has a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering form the University of Berne and a degree in mechanical engineering from the Berne University of Applied Sciences in Burgedorf, Switzerland. He is involved in R&D, procedural and hardware development in SpineWelding’s medical projects.

Lydia Friedl
Lydia is our office manager. She is responsible for all administrative matters related to office and IT, and furthermore assists the management. Lydia graduated with honors in business management training. Before Lydia joined us she worked nearly 10 years as a shop manager for an Austrian mobile network operator.

Sigrun Gudjonsdottir
Sigrun is responsible for business development and project controlling on the medical side of SpineWelding. She has a degree in Architecture from the Technical University of Karlsruhe (Germany), a post-degree in Computer Aided Architecture from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), a Computer Science degree from the University of Iceland (Iceland), and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from London Business School (United Kingdom).

Isabella Kreimer
Isabella manages the wood and non-medical activities of SpineWelding and is involved in SpineWelding’s financial reporting and project controlling. She has a degree in English and American Studies in Combination of Law and Economics from the University of Graz (Austria).

Martina Serafini
Martina is responsible for the administration of IP related matters. She has a degree in Slavistics and International Law from the University of Zurich. Martina is currently attending a postgraduate program for Intellectual Property Rights (MAS IP) at the ETH Zurich.

Marcel Aeschlimann

Marcel is Co-owner and Partner of Creaholic SA in Biel, Switzerland. He has a degree in microtechnology from the University of Applied Sciences in Biel, and a secondary degree in economics from the University of Neuchâtel. He has been with Creaholic since 1990 and has worked on a range of highly innovative projects at Creaholic. Marcel is a co-inventor of the WoodWelding technology.

Dr. Gerhard Plasonig
Delegate of the Board
Gerhard is founder and Managing Director of GP International SA, Zug, Switzerland, an IPR, technology investment and exploitation company. Before starting GPI, he worked for seven years with The Generics Group, Cambridge, UK, as well as two years for Pugh Roberts Associates in Boston, USA. He has a degree in automotive engineering, a doctorate in strategic technology management from the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and was a Fulbright Doctoral Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA. He holds an Honorary Professorship from the Technical University of Munich, Germany.
